MPSOTC Activity’s Summary for 2023

As we bid farewell to 2023, we reflect on a year of dynamic growth and unparalleled training achievements at the MPSOTC. It’s been a year where our commitment to global peacekeeping and security education reached new heights, as evidenced by our diverse array of courses, esteemed visitors, and meaningful collaborations.

In total, we have proudly hosted 447 students from 45 different countries in our residential and online courses. In parallel, more than 700 students were trained by our Mobile Training Teams in Greece and abroad as well as numerous students in Courses around the world which MPSOTC supported with its instructors.

Each of our training programs, crafted with meticulous attention to detail and relevance, contributed significantly to our mission of fostering global peace and security.

Our Courses emphasized tactical and operational skills crucial for modern peacekeeping and security challenges such as the “UN Military Observers Course” and the “NATO Peace Support Operations Basic Course”.

We placed emphasis in the realm of strategic communications, recognizing their pivotal role in safeguarding freedom and democracy amidst the challenges posed by hybrid threats. Our “NATO Basic Public Affairs Courses” and the “NATO Strategic Communications Course” , underscored the importance of effective communication in military contexts. Additionally, our collaborative effort with the RACVIAC-Centre for Security Cooperation for the ‘Hybrid Threats in South East Europe Course’, in Zagreb, highlighted the need for adept strategic communications to address evolving security challenges. Our commitment to contribution to the NATO Strategic Communications training community was solidified with the ‘NATO Advanced Media Operations Course’ solidified.

Addressing the multifaceted features of modern border security and management we conducted the ‘Sea-Land Borders Security & Refugees/Arms/Dual-Use Goods Control Course’ and the ‘Integrated Border Management Course’. MPSOTC as discipline leader in Military CSDP training, focused on the strategic and operational aspects of border management specific to the Common Security and Defence Policy missions and operations.

Other courses ranged from the “International Humanitarian Law Course”, which fostered a deeper understanding of the legal and practical dimensions of conflict, to the “NATO CIMIC Field Workers’ Course”, focusing on Civil-Military Cooperation.

MPSOTC continued its successful collaboration with the Aristotle University by providing the Safety for Journalists Training School equipping war correspondents with critical survival skills.

Along with MEDUCATION we conducted the ‘Hostile Environment Awareness Training (HEAT)’, a groundbreaking 5-day program based on ENTRi curriculum, preparing participants for high-risk environments.

Courses on “Cross-Cultural Competency in CSDP Missions and Operations” and “Cultural Property Protection” highlighted the importance of cultural understanding and heritage preservation in peacekeeping efforts.

As we turn the page to 2024, we remain committed to our vision of providing exceptional training that not only addresses current challenges but also anticipates future needs in peacekeeping and security. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all our partners, instructors, and participants for making 2023 a landmark year at MPSOTC.
